Cannes Critics Week selection showcases a diverse selection of new shorts

The 54th edition of La Semaine de la Critique has announced its selection for 2015 and, alongside seven feature films from emerging directors, the event will also showcase 10 shorts from new generation of filmmakers.

The selection includes the International Premiere of Alles Wird Gut (Everything Will Be Okay) (Dir. Patrick Vollrath, Austria, 2015). Vollrath directed the well regarded short film The Jacket and his latest film examines a little girl being picked up by her father for their usual weekend together. But this time something isn’t right…

On the selection, Vollrath – speaking exclusively to Cineuropa Shorts – said:

“It is really cool being selected and I hope that it will give me the opportunity to move on to the making of my first feature film.”

Also selected is Swedish film Boys (Pojkarna) – also recieiving it’s International Premiere - directed Isabella Carbonell, a film that follows a boy in an institution for young sex offenders, and the world premiere of Romanian film Ramona by Andrei Crețulescu which is described by the festival organisers as one of the films that offers “… a brand new vision of the genre film.”

Two French titles will also screen: Jeunesse des Loups-Garous (Monsters Turn Into Lovers) by Yann Delattre and La Fin du dragon (The Dragon’s Demise) by Marina Diaby. The first is described by organisers as a film that "...delicately opposes the fragility of love to the harsh reality," while the second "..elegantly mingles family drama with strangeness generated by a fine touch of burlesque."

The short film committee, coordinated by Fabien Gaffez, selected ten films from 1750 short films submitted.
