Yesterday the 13th edition of Magma – mostra di cinema breve kicked off with the original vintage posters exhibition titled “The way Italian cinema used to promote itself” (Festival Centre c/o Teatro dell'Opera dei Pupi). The exhibition will stay open until 22 November.

Today (21.30) there will be a  concert performed by the Sicilian band Gentless3 (Zo - Centro Culture Contemporanee, Catania). From Thursday 20 to Saturday 22 November (20.30) the international short film competition will take place at Multisala Margherita in Acireale. The three festival nights will include three out-of-competition special sections devoted to festivals which have contributed in promoting short film in Europe. The Zagreb Film Festival, the Tirana International Film Festival e Friss Hus Budapest, will be introduced by their own artistic directors or representatives.

The 33 shorts in competition, selected among 920 submissions from all over the world, will compete for the Lorenzo Vecchio Award, some special mentions and, for the very first time, the Audience Award. The Jury will be chaired by Mario Serenellini (film critic and journalist for La Repubblica, Avant Scène Cinéma and Radio France) and composed of the director Gianluca De Serio, Agron Domi (founder of Foundation Art & Media Albania and Albania Film Commission) and Sonia Cilia (a production director for cinema and TV).

The festival will host a number of guests coming to Acireale to introduce their shorts: the British director Nour Wazzi (Up on the Roof), Alexandra Hetmerova with her animation Mythopolis (Czech Republic) and the German Simone Catharina Gaul, director of the experimental short Teilchenbeschleunigung; the producers François-Xavier Willems (The Dancing, Belgium), Bérangère Petitjean (Daphné or the Lovely Specimen, France), Jordane Oudin (Le Plongeon, France) and Bára Příkaská (Mythopolis, Czech Republic).
