André Marques begins post-production on new short Yulya
André Marques, director of the award-winning shorts Luminita and Grandpa (winner of the Filminute People's Choice and Filminute Cineuropa Audience awards) has just revealed that his new short film, Yulya, is now in post-production.
Yulya follows the titular protagonist, a young girl of Chechen origins, as she tries to flee the gang that has trafficked her into prostitution. A film with no dialogue, it creates an exploratory and sensory movement that follows her journey.
Yulya is the prequel to The Drunk, which will be Marques' first feature-length film and is one of the twelve projects to be selected for the Biennale College Cinema program. As such, four characters will appear in both films.
Shot on a low budget, Yulya was produced with the support of the city of Alcácer do Sal, the city of Setúbal and the GDA Foundation (it was the recipient of their Short Film Support Programme) and will be released in the second half of 2015.
Yulya is produced by Marques' AMP in co-production with BRO and RIOT FILMS.
