19th Edition of Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur announes thematic packages
Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Switzerland's leading short film festival, has announced some of the thematic programmes that will be included in the 19th edition of the festival which takes place from November 3rd-8th 2015.
The festival's person in focus section will concentrate on the work of German filmmaker / artists Christoph Girardet and Matthias Müller. Known for their relfexive use of found footage - with such popular festival films and installations as Play (2003), Mirror (2003) and Maybe Siam (2011) - the programme promises to show us how films work, how they play with our perception and our emotions.
The festival's main focus is entitled Arab Encounters – Visions and Realities and is devoted to everyday life in the Arab world, far from a Western outsider view on religion and culture. The Country in Focus will be dedicated to Bhutan and Nepal, places whose film industries have not yet drawn the world’s attention, but which are all the more likely to have some cinematic surprises in store.
The festival will also show Swiss premieres of early shorts by Andy Warhol, celebrate 99 Years Of Dada, ask what makes gangsters so attractive or material pleasures so appealing, and light up the screen with Hot Shorts.
