FestAnča announced winners

Nearly 5000 festival-goers got over a 5 days of intensive programme consisting of over 400 short films, special focus on German and Swiss animation, workshops, video games lectures, masterclasses and parties till early morning in Slovakia. This pretty young festival is one of the hottest spots for animation lovers in Central and Eastern Europe. 

The big festival winner was Allan Holly, who came home with main Anča Award for his film Coda, about lost soul stumbles drunken through the city. In a park Death finds him, and shows him many things. The jury, consisting of German video artist Max Hattler, Swiss filmmaker Michael Frei and Slovak producer Peter Badać, stated: „Coda is growing an appetite to meet a Death, in good meaning of this sentence”.  

The international jury picked up also the best student film among international entries, Somewhere by Nicolas Ménardo. Fongopolis, touching and unique portrait of modern cities’ labyrinths by Joanna Kożuch was named as a best Slovak animation. Here is worth to mention new festival’s award for theatrical distribution for short animation, the DI AWARD – given by Slovak distributor Film Europe. The winner, The Story of Tornado by Veronika Kocurkova, will be release as a pre-feature before one of distributor’s catalogue title this year in Slovak cinemas. The best music video award went to Germany and Benjael Halfmaderholz for his stop-motion puppet animation for extraordinary band Bonaparte, Mañana Forever.
