Curtas de Vila do Conde 2014
The Vila do Conde Short film festival handed the awards of its 22nd edition on Saturday July 12. French film Camboja 2099 by Davy Chou was the big winner of the international competition while O Triângulo Dourado by Maria Clara Vasconcelos won in the national competition section.
Produced by France’s Vicky Films and shot with a very low budget in only three days, Camboja 2099 focuses on two friends who tell each other about the dreams they had the night before. Davy Chou’s directorial debut was part of the latest Directors’ Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival.
Other international winners include Dustin Guy Defa’s Person to Person, the documentary El Palacio by Nicolás Pereda and the animated title Niebiesky Pokoj by Tomasz Siwinski.
O Triângulo Dourado is a film produced and directed by Miguel Clara Vasconcelos. Clearly a very personal project shot in 16mm and challenging the frontiers between cinema and video art, O Triângulo Dourado is the adaptation of a poem written by Vasconcelos himself and a reflection on love, loneliness and voyages.
The beautifully tragic animated film Soot by David Doutel and Vasco Sá, was honoured with the public prize and with the award for best achievement in directing of the national competition.
Panique au village: la bûche de Noël by Vincent Patar and Stéphane Aubier won the public prize as well as the award for the best European film, which turns the film into a nominee to the upcoming European Film Awards, to be held on December 13.
