Krakow Film Festival calls for entries

The call for entries for the 56th Krakow Film Festival, which is held from 29th May to 5th June 2016, is now open. The festival will be in the look out for documentary, animated and short film submissions.

Krakow Film Festival, one of the most important European film festivals showing short, documentary and animated films, is held every year at the turn of May and June in Krakow. The event is accredited by International Federation of Film Producers Association - FIAPF, and nominates films for the awards of the European Film Academy and the American Academy of Motion Picture and Sciences.

Last year the festival played host to a multitude of some of the best short films from across the world. These included Over – Jorn Threlfall’s multiple award winning film and Object, the sumptuous Polish documentary that also picked up an award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The festival also played host to a retrospective of the short animations of legendary Estonian animator Priit Pärn who was also on hand to collect the Dragon of Dragons – the festival’s highest honour.

The event's pillars include four competitions of equal rank - national and three international ones: Short Film Competition, Documentary Film Competition and the DocFilmMusic Competition for music documentary films.

In the Short Film Competition, feature, animated and documentary films with a running time of no more than 30 minutes compete for the Golden Dragon.

Foreign films made in 2015 and 2016 that have not been screened publicly before 1st June 2015 and Polish films made in 2015 and 2016 may take part in competitions. In all three international competitions, a Polish première is required, while an international première is preferred.
