Tocha’s The Trail of a Tale wins Action4Climate prize

Portuguese director Gonçalo Tocha’s short film The Trail of a Tale won the top prize at the international contest Action4Climate. The 15M dollar award was launched by Connect4Climate – a global programme aimed at raising awareness on climate change – and the jury, chaired by Italian director Bernardo Bertololucci, included notorious names such as Wim Wenders, Fernando Meirelles, Mira Nair, Atom Egoyan, Mika Kaurismaki and Walter Salles.

The Trail of a Tale focuses on a letter written in the future, describing the transition from current societies to an oil-free world. That future is a shinny one as societies have taken into account current alarms and developed sustainable environmental policies.

Tocha, whose credits include Locarno documentary It’s The Earth Not The Moon, was backed by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) and collaborated with street artist Miguel Januário (MAISMENOS). The film competed against over 200 entries from 70 countries.

Tocha said: “I am very proud to be the winner of the Action4Climate contest and I truly hope my film will help to understand the urge to act now in order to protect our future”.

The second prize (10M dollars) went to Global Warning by Bulgarian director Dobrin Kashavelov whereas the third prize (5M dollars) was given to US director Nathan Dappen’s Snows of the Nile.
