Filmmakers Gunhild Enger and Yann Gonzalez to be given special focus at Go Short

Go Short – International Short Film Festival Nijmegen will welcome the Norwegian filmmaker Gunhild Enger and the French filmmaker Yann Gonzalez during their upcoming festival which runs 8-12th April.

Gunhild Enger graduated from Edinburgh College of Art, and The School of Film Directing in Gothenburg. She was nominated for a BAFTA with her graduation film Bargain and her film Passion was awarded as best international short at Alcine Madrid 2009. The film Premature won the international Grand Prix at Brief Encounters 2012 and was screened at Go Short 2013 while her latest film Subtotal has screened at numerous film festivals across the word. Enger films all contain a mixture of the absurd combined with a poignant humanity and she says she gets inspired by looking at what people are doing: “The silly things people do draw laughter mixed with vicarious shame.”

Yann Gonzalez is a fan of sleazy pulp movies and great music and is a self-proclaimed sex maniac. You can see, hear and feel this in all his films. Like typical French films, his films are full of though dialogues and erotic tension, in Gonzalez's own style. The soundtracks are often delivered by M83, the band of his brother. Gonzalez wrote most of the lyrics on several M83’s albums. Between 2006 and 2012, and after working as a film critic, Gonzalez directed six short films screened in many international film festivals, including Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes. International Film Festival Rotterdam 2014 screened his first feature film You and the Night.

Enger will be the subject of the festival's Artist In Focus programmer while Gonzalez - along with Enger - will coach the students of the New Arrivals: Go Short Campus, a program in which twenty young film talents from throughout Europe participate. 

Both filmmakers will present their own short films at Go Short and screen classic and recent films that inspire them. Gonzalez' inspiration program will be screened on 16 mm. Athanor, a film by Philippe Garrel, is part of this program and will be screened for the first time in ten years. Additionally Enger and Gonzalez will give several Q&A's and are present throughout the festival.

Go Short – International Short Film Festival Nijmegen is the Dutch festival for short film. For five days, over 300 short films are screened in and around LUX in Nijmegen.
