Seemannsgarn triumphs at Swiss Film Day in Winterthur

Five different  Swiss Film Schools took part in the 8th Swiss Film School Day at the International Kurzfilmtage yesterday. A panel of industry experts – Jing Hasse from Nordisk Panorama, Swiss film producer Ivan Madeo and Cineuropa Shorts’ own Laurence Boyce – saw 14 different films and gave direct feedback on those films to the filmmakers and audiences.

The film schools involved were the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, School of Art and Design (Video and Animation courses), the University of Art and Design, Lausanne (ECAL), the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD) and the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Each school offered a selection of diverse shorts ranging from the minimalist and thought provoking live action short Swizzair (Dir. Hugo Radi, Switzerland, 2014), the sexually charged and enormously funny Ivan’s Need (Dirs. Lukas Suter, Veronica L. Montano & Manuela Leuenberger, Switzerland, 2015) and the quietly absurd Aujourd’ hui il ne pleut pas en Suisse (Dir. Lara Stroll, Switzerland, 2015)

After the day of screenings, feedback and talks the jury decided on a winner which received 5000CHF.

A special mention was given to the documentary Julian (Dir. Julia Furer, Switzerland, 2015) for it’s moving portrayal of a man living on the fringes of society. The film was from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, School of Art and Design (Video)

The main award went to animation Seemannsagarn (Dirs. Julia Munz & Claudia Wirth, Switzerland, 2015) for being a fine and beautifully animated allegory about relationships and the give and take that they all must contain. The film was from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, School of Art and Design (Animation)
