Home wins Best of Fest at Palm Springs

Daniel Mulloy's Home has walked away with the top prize at Palm Springs, one of the US top film festivals for short films. The film from the BAFTA award winning filmmaker has proved to be a popular one since it premiered at this year’s South By Southwest Festival, and has even received a limited theatrical run as part of Refugee Week in the UK. Cineuropa Shorts reviewed the film HERE.

Another popular European film was Lewis Rose’s The Chop, a comedy about a kosher butcher who pretends to be Muslim to get a job at a halal butchers. The film won the festival’s Audience Award for Best Live Action Short

327 short films screened throughout the Festival along with more than 4,100 filmmaker submissions available in the film market.

“A common thread of immigration and compassion dominates our award winning films this year – echoing current issues around the world,” said Festival Director Helen du Toit. “After a stimulating and energizing week of storytelling and networking between the next generation of filmmakers, we leave with a sense of hope for a world that, despite some setbacks, does seem to be evolving slowly but surely.”
